Nervous before Christmas

Slightly annoyed, Lex enters the living room and almost stumbles over various rolls of gift wrapping paper. He curses quietly.

"Watch out; there's paper all over the floor..."

"No, really?!" Lex raises his brows sarcastically. "Lucky me to have you always looking out for me."

"Clark Kent, saving billionaires since 2001!" Cheerful laughter fills the room, and the dark-haired man sets a wrapped box next to him onto the coffee table. "That's for Chloe and... we're done!" Clark heaves a sigh and claps his hands before he eyes Lex curiously. "Where is that Grinch-y attitude coming from?"

"My attitude is the same as always; not Grinch-y, or Scrooge-y, or anything else," Lex replies coldly and steps over the wrapping paper.

Clark grins. "Yeah... you radiate the spirit of Christmas. I shall get my sunglasses before I get blinded..."

Lex flashes him a pitiful look, but suppresses the urge to reply. Instead, he's lifting up two ties, showing them Clark. "Which one?"

"You have more knowledge of ties. I've barely figured how to knot one..." Chuckling, Clark shakes his head, and begins to pick up the left over wrapping paper.

"You don't need to knot it, I just wanna know which one looks better."

Clark glances at the ties and shrugs. "They're both nice."

Lex groans and rubs his hand over his scalp. "That doesn't exactly help... - Which one is adequate for your parents' --"

"Lex, my parents know you, they know what you look like, and besides, you've celebrated Christmas with me and my parents before."

"As your friend; they've tolerated me. And I'm quite sure your dad's always had a loaded shot gun within his grasp..."

"No, he uses to lock them away during the holidays," Clark replies dead serious, though the corners of his mouth are twitching a bit.

Lex shakes his head. He doesn't like being mocked – not even by Clark. He takes a deep breath. "Fine, I've celebrated with you before, but this year it's different, wouldn't you agree?! This year, it's our first Christmas with your parents! - So, which tie?"

While Clark is still cleaning up the living room and puts the rolls of wrapping paper into a large box, he squints at in an amused way.
"Lex, it's just my parents! They're excited to have you; you don't need to wear a tie at all. --"

"It's a suit, it goes along with a tie!" Lex replies stubbornly, holding up the ties. "Which one?"

Sighing deeply, Clark closes the box and sits down on the edge of the coffee table. "We'll be at my parents; on a farm," he says weakly, causing Lex to sneer.

"Certainly that does explain why you're wearing a track suit!" Cocking his head, he eyes Clark suspiciously. "You are going to change, though, aren't you?! - Your dad may lock away his shot guns these days, but I'm positive your mom knows where, and I'm sure she's gonna use one of them on me when I bring you back to her, dressed like that; on Christmas!!!" His expression mirrors disgust and mock-fear.

Clark laughs out loud. "Mom loves you too much to shoot you, and she'll be glad to see me on Christmas, no matter what I am wearing... – Besides, you know I can change within seconds!"

Lex feels a slight draft and involuntarily, he has to blink.
"I hate you doing that," he says as he feels the draft again, and glares at Clark who's now wearing dark pants and a freshly ironed, light-blue shirt. He's even combed his hair.

Clark flashes him a big smile. "Here, take this one – if you really can't go without a tie..." He takes a burgundy one from behind his back and wraps it around Lex's neck, attempting to tie it.

Lex begins to chuckle. "Uh, you should let me do that..." he says, grabbing for Clark's hands. He smiles his thanks before suddenly, he makes a face. "I'm afraid I'm a bit nervous about tonight," he admits quietly and slightly ashamed.

"You needn't! Mom and Dad are fine with us. They know you make me happy, and when I'm happy they are happy. Besides, you've already won their confidence. You know my secret, you're protecting me, you love me... My parents know all that; they are fine with us!" Smiling, he cups Lex's face in his hands and kisses him softly.
"Now, stop worrying. We'll have a nice evening with my parents. Mom makes your favourite stuffings, and cinnamon rolls. Everything will be perfect. And, maybe, later tonight... we can have another Christmas party."

Clark's cheeks are turning into a bright shade of pink, but he stands Lex's look.

"An intimate one?" Lex purses his lips. He feels way more comfortable now.

"Hell, I hope so!" Clark announces in mock-indignation. "Our place isn't big enough for a third person!"
