Seeds of Doubts

"I like you -- "

"Well, I hope so," Lex said, lifting his head."I don't have cash with me..."

"This was a freebie; next time you have to pay again! And, don't forget: I prefer hard currency!" Grinning, Chris kissed his nipple, before she rolled over onto him. Her skin was still damp from sweat, and her full lips seemed even a little fuller; slightly swollen due to excessive kissing.

Lex shivered – not because he was cold, or uncomfortable – he simply liked feeling her warm, naked body pressed close against his. He wrapped his arms around her.

"I like you being so convincing," Chris quietly said, kissing his chin. "It was a great idea to persuade me taking the day off. It's way nicer here than in my office!"

"See?! Work's not everything..." Absently, he let his fingertips crawl along the back of her neck and tangled his hand in her hair. It slightly curled when damp.

"Says the man who works at least twenty-six hours per day," Chris replied in mock-annoyance, and kissed his eyelids.

Lex sighed, satisfied, enjoying Chris and the post-coital sensation. He wouldn't mind if this moment lasted forever.

"Work... that's the right word," he mumbled, his eyes still closed. "You've definitely been work!" He squinted at her.

Chris sat up, watching him indignantly, and playfully slapped his chest.
"Pff... and I was just gonna ask you if we can stay here all day," she said. "But, since I am work, and you're not nice..." She flashed him a mischievous look and before Lex could react, she straddled him, moving her fingers quickly across his chest, up to his armpits. "That deserves punishment!"

Lex couldn't help but squirm under her touch. He tried not to laugh although he was ticklish – a fact Chris had discovered at a very early stage of their relationship. He began to giggle and tried to free himself, but she was a master of tickle; very skillful and way more experienced than Lex.

"Begging for mercy?" She looked down at him, pleased with herself. Lex shook his head.

"Never!" He grabbed her by the waist and tossed her off of him onto the mattress, attacking her.

Immediately, Chris began to laugh. Lex was ticklish, but that was nothing compared to her; her whole body seemed to be sensible, especially the area around her belly button.
Lex forced her on her back, holding both her arms with his left hand, and moved the fingertips of his right quickly over her stomach.

Chris squirmed and giggled, trying to wriggle herself free, and giggled even more as he brushed his nose against her neck, before he kissed her skin. Slowly, he moved his lips down to a breast without stopping to tickle her stomach.

"Don't! Lex... Don't!" Laughing, Chris gasped for air and kept wriggling. She tried to move away from his hand but obviously not away from his lips.

Grinning, Lex kissed her nipple, before sucking it into his mouth, and brushed his thumb once more against her belly button, causing her to squeak.

"Lex, that's unfair!"

"You started this! Was that fair?" he smirked and looked up.

"Hey, who told you to stop?"

"Tease!" He moved up so that he lay partially over her, and kissed her lips. His hand left her stomach and cupped her breast, teasing her nipple.

Chris relaxed and sighed against his lips – he loved that sound.

"Let me go," she whispered at his mouth; her breath felt hot.

"Why should I?"

"I... need to touch you, that's why!"

Lex grinned, nipping at her lips. "Touching, or tickling?"

"Whatever you deserve," she replied, still trying to free her arms. Her hips arched against his, and he felt the familiar sensation rising inside his groin again. She must have cast a spell on him; he was addicted to her and couldn't get enough.

"Lex, I want my arms back! Don't be so mean!"

"Don't be so whiny!"

"That's my nature!"

"You always have to have the last word, hm?!" He laughed a little, rolling her nipple between thumb and index finger.

She sighed, smiling. "Hmmmmmm... No, not always."

"But, mostly!?"

"That's what you say..." She flashed him another mischievous look and within the blink of an eye, she had freed her arms and rolled them over.

"Hah!" She laughed as she straddled his hips, pressing his upper body down to the mattress.

"Did it ever occur to you that your dad hadn't taught you something like this to use it... well, in bed?!" Lex smirked, skimming his palms over her breasts. They perfectly fit into his hands.

"Wanna talk about the General now?" Teasingly, she nipped at his upper lip while reaching between them to press her palm against his erection.

He winced slightly and thrust against her hand. He didn't want to talk about her dad, or anything else. Instead, he gripped the sides of her waist and pulled her over with her.

"You've practiced," Chris giggled before he closed her mouth with his lips.

Her legs fell apart, and Lex sank into her, feeling her warmth around him. Chris moaned into his mouth, her hips surged up in response to his thrust; he felt her fingertips trailing along his spine up to the back of his head. God, he loved that!

"Uhn, this is... so much better... than law," she panted and wrapped her legs around his hips, forcing him to thrust deeper.

Sometimes, mostly, she was quite demanding during the act – which was the last thing he ever expected of her. But, he wasn't complaining; the opposite was the case. Sex with Chris Harris couldn't get boring!

Chris arched, fingers gripping his shoulders as her breath accelerated. "Jeez! So... uhn... much better!"

"I'll take it... as a compliment." He reached between them, placing his thumb against her clit and rubbed in time to their movements.

Chris gasped, moaned and almost screamed, and Lex didn't know if he could control himself just a second longer, but then, he felt her orgasm. Her thighs and everything else of her around him tightened, and when he looked at her face, he saw her smiling – that moronic, satisfied smile of hers. He let go.
His body shuddered and, groaning, he collapsed on top of her, breathing heavily.

"It was... a compliment," she whispered, kissing his scalp. Her body still shook, and she was breathing as heavily as him, but she was still able to move. At least she could move her hand that was smoothing down his sweaty back.

Lex felt warm and save and loved. He was comfortable, ready to fall asleep in this position, his face buried between her breasts.

Minutes passed and he only focused on Chris' heartbeat, imagining it was beating just for him, and inhaled her scent: peaches, coffee and sex – a perfect combination!

"I'm hungry!"

"Hmpf..." Slightly annoyed, Lex rose and moved to the mattress beside her. "Christine Harris, you're the most romantic person alive!"

"Eww, don't call me 'Christine'; that gives me Ms. Webber flashbacks. – Lit. class, ninth grade, don't ask!" She sat up and shook like a wet puppy. "Besides, your stomach's the rumbling one; that makes me hungry, too."

"You're always hungry!"

"Huh, I'm not one of your model... acquaintances! I can't live off cotton balls and cocaine." She pocked his shoulder.

"My stomach is not rumbling," Lex replied moodily, though he was proven otherwise.

Chris laughed and he shook his head in resignation while she nuzzled his cheek. "Sorry, of course, it's not your stomach; it's the one of that really handsome guy I just had sex with..."

Chuckling, Lex lifted his hands in surrender. "OK, I'll go and tell the cook -- "

"You stay where you are!" Chris said firmly and stood. "I go!"

"I thought, you're scared of the cook?!"

"I am! – I came with undies, didn't I?!" Crinkling her nose, she looked around. "But, I'll make my hungry face; he'll be less scary then... – Oh, there you are!"

Smirking, Lex watched her stooping and slipping into her panties. Lately, she had lost her timidity in front of him when naked; it had never been a problem when they were in bed, but as soon as the actual act was over, Chris had become incredibly shy and insecure. Luckily, that had stopped by now, and she began to feel more comfortable around him.

"Like what you see?"

"Can't complain..."

Giggling, Chris slid into the purple shirt he had worn earlier that day and moved back to the bed, bending over him. "Naughty man! – Don't move and remember where we've stopped!" She kissed him before she turned to leave. She shook her butt as she was heading for the door. What a tease... God, he loved her!

Chris' personality certainly was as complex as his own, and he couldn't get rid of the feeling he had only scratched the surface, but he liked what he had discovered so far.

Everything seemed to be easy with her around; she made him laugh and she caused this warm, safe feeling inside him. Their sex was great, but he also could talk to her – about almost everything. He hadn't met anyone like her before.
Chris was beauty and brains, combined with an interesting sense of humor and a bit eccentricity. She was a strong character – strong enough to be with someone like him!

Suddenly, the door opened and Chris reentered the room.

"The cook's still scary?!" Smirking, Lex sat up.

Chris didn't answer but whimpered, and cursed, and groaned – she made a lot of strange noises and looked rather pale. Leaning back against the door, she sank down to the floor, hands covering her face.

Frowning, Lex got up, grabbed his robe from the bedpost and hurried over to her.
"Angel, what happened?" He squatted down and removed her hands from her face. She looked horrified.

"I have to sit in a closet!"

"Or, in a padded room," Lex mumbled, rolling his eyes. He had hoped, her craziness wouldn't hit in today – wishful thinking. "What happened?"

"He saw me in your shirt!"

"Who?"

"I ran straight into him, and he saw me in your shirt!"

"Who?"

"Him!!!" She howled and covered her face again.

Lex shook his head, bemused. Being seen in one of his shirts could impossibly be more humiliating than being seen in a pink Hello Kitty T-shirt!

"I ran straight into him, wearing nothing but your shirt..."

"Chris, would you mind giving me a name?"

"Your father," she winced, looking as though she hoped for the ground to open and swallow her.

Lex blinked, his mouth dropped open. "My... what?"

"Your father! Tall, creepy guy... curly mane, loads of facial hair..."

He frowned. Why would his father come up here? He had never done before! On this corridor were Lex's private rooms – Lionel used to respect this area; for which reason ever...

"What's he doing here?"

"Uh, I've studied law, not villainy," Chris said grumpily. "Maybe, he woke up this morning with a sudden urge to terrorize people, but the he realized there's no one left in Metropolis he hasn't threatened at least five times before, so he came to Smallville – people are used to misery here..."

Lex looked up and couldn't help but smile. "Feeling better now, hmm?!"

"A bit..."

"I'm sure, you gave him a snarky response he's still digesting," he said, seized her by the elbows and pulled her to stand.

"Actually... I just turned and ran..."

Lex raised his brows. "That must be a first..."

"Hellooo? I'm just wearing your shirt, and I'm sure he's able to look through fabrics; he's evil! Every Friday night he goes bowling with the devil – and wins!"

Lex tried to remain serious but failed – that image was too hilarious. "Apparently, you really are better now. – I'll go and talk to him. --"

"Cover yourself first," Chris mumbled, starring at his crotch for a moment, before she tied the belt of his robe around his waist. "He's seen enough young flesh today. – And now, make him go away!"

"Try to calm down." He kissed her forehead and stepped out into the hall.

"Son -- "

"What are you doing here, Dad?" Lex said instead of greeting, shoving his hands in his pockets.

"I was told you haven't left your bedroom all day, thus I came to see if you're fine," Lionel replied lightly. "Apparently, you are. And, so is Ms. Harris; your shirt suits her well..." He flashed him a suggestive smile.

Lex's face froze. He hated Lionel talking about Chris as though she was nothing but another short, meaningless adventure. She was more – more than Lionel would ever understand.

"Why are you in Smallville?" he asked, trying to sound indifferent. "You certainly didn't wake up this morning, worrying about my health?!"

Lionel chuckled amused. "I certainly didn't, though your well-being is always a matter of concern to me."

"I'm flattered." Mockingly, Lex touched his chest, before he glared at his father again. "Why are you here?"

"LexCorp --"

"You gave it back --"

"I gave you back the position of a manager; it's still a subsidiary of LuthorCorp, however," he replied, smiling sweetly.

Lex's fists clenched, but he reminded himself to remain calm. Lionel was challenging him, but Lex wouldn't give him satisfaction – not today, not because of this.

"There'll be a board meeting on Monday; I'll happily give you all news on LexCorp then," he said coolly. "Now, why are your really here... Dad?"

"I think, we both now." Lionel's face became unreadable and instinctively, Lex moved forward, walking him away from the bedroom's door. He doubted Chris was eavesdropping, but she needn't hear this accidentally.

"Where's Lucas?"

"Still alive... if you're referring to that," Lex said, walking further away from the bedroom. Chris definitely mustn't hear that! "Don't worry, Dad, he's safe --"

"Where is he?"

"He's safe from you," Lex hissed and breathed in. He mustn't lose his temper, though he was in the right mood to anger his father – just like he had angered him when he had stolen LexCorp.
"I hate to think of what would happen to him if you should ever find him; now that he's decided not to play along your games!"

There was no reaction on Lionel's face, but Lex decided to increase security in Canberra. Lucas was doing great there and Lex would like to keep it that way – for the moment.

"If you excuse me now – I have a guest, and if there's anything I've ever learned from you, it's how to be a good host. – You found your way in, you'll find it out," he said and turned to leave. Everything was said. "See you on Monday, Dad!"

"Give Ms. Harris my regards," Lionel suddenly said, almost chirpy. "And please tell her, I was really impressed by her interview, and the picture on the cover... absolutely stunning!"

Lex frowned. He had no idea what he was talking about, nor if this person was his father at all! What interview? What cover? Chris hadn't applied for a job at LuthorCorp's, had she?!

"Oh, she hasn't told you?!" Lionel watched him almost pitiful, and chuckling, he shook his head. "Why, what a surprise... Maybe, she's keeping even more from you. – You've never had a good taste in picking your bedfellows." He pulled a magazine out from the pocket of his coat and handed it Lex.

For a second, he almost expected to see the infamous bunny emblem.

"You may keep it. – See you on Monday, Son!"

Dull, Lex watched him leaving, feeling dumb and startled.
He had no idea what just had happened, but he knew he would never equal Lionel Luthor – not that he tried, but it was fascinating to see his father always coming up trumps – no matter what happened. Maybe, he really was in a close relationship with the devil...

Feeling humiliated and confused, Lex looked at the magazine. No bunny, thank God!

The Lawyer, he read and beneath the title was a picture of Chris and her associate Howard Bradford. They looked good together – in a professional way – nonetheless, Lex shook his head.
Why hadn't Chris told him about this? He thought, she'd tell him everything, and frankly, he would have expected her to ask him for advices, how to deal with journalists, et cetera.
Apart from talking to some court reporters and, lately, hiding from paparazzi, she had no experience with the media at all.

He didn't know what to think. There was a voice inside his head, telling him Lionel was right and Chris kept secrets from him, but then again there was another voice, reminding him Chris had never lied to him.
Certainly, she had a reason for hiding that interview from him, and if he asked her why, she'd give him an honest answer – she always did! Nonetheless, it bugged him he had to learn from his father about all of this.

Why did he know, but Lex didn't?

Taking a deep breath, he reentered the bedroom to confront Chris.

"Is the mean, old man gone? I don't need to sit in a closet anymore? That's good since you don't have actual closets here, just huge rooms to store your clothes in; sitting in a room isn't the same as sitting in a closet, is it?! - You made him go away; you are my hero!"

Finally, Chris paused to breathe and, beaming, she moved closer, her arms spread to give him a hug, but then she stopped halfway. She cocked her head and eyed him; likely figuring out whether or not he was in that mood he allegedly always was in when his dad had visited.

Her eyes fell on the magazine. "Huh, your father brought you a Playboy? Why, that'd explain him being up here... That's bedroom reading..."

Well, at least Lex wasn't the only one whose first thought had gone in that direction. Slowly, he turned the magazine, showing Chris its cover. Her mouth formed a surprised little 'O'.

"Lucky me, it's not the Playboy," she mumbled, grinning weakly.

Lex scowled.

"I'd never do the Playboy," she added hastily. "Not as long as Dad and you are alive, and by the time you're gone – someday in 2156 – Hugh wouldn't want me anymore... Well, he'll be gone by then, too, I assume... How old is he now? A hundred and twenty, two hundred...?"

"Chris! Why can't you be serious just for once?"

"Sorry..." She bit her lips, eyeing him warily.

Lex sighed. The day had started so good, but once his dad showed up, all hell broke lose – as always.
"I didn't mean to yell at you," he said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"'S'okay. Sometimes, I need to be yelled at; I never know when to stop," she said quietly, and smiled. It was a fake one, Lex knew it; it didn't reach her eyes. "You're mad..."

Again, he sighed and shook his head. "No, angel, I'm not mad. I'm just --"

"Pissed?"

"Confused... I don't understand why you kept this from me." He tapped on the magazine.

"I didn't! Well, I did, but not intentionally!" Chris said, her gaze dropped down to the floor. Lex saw her wiggling her toes. "When I got the editor's call, my first thought was: 'I have to tell Lex!' - I'd cancelled all my meetings for that day and came here to tell you --"

"But, you forgot about it. Well, it's a long way from Metropolis to Smallville, and your attention span has never been --"

"For someone who's allegedly not upset, you give a pretty good impression being it, Lex!" Chris hissed and glared at him. "I wanted to tell you. --"

"Why haven't you, then?" He hadn't been angry until now, but Chris attacking him like that made his blood boil.. Who was she to talk to him like this?

"Huh... because it's rather difficult to talk to someone who's just trying to kill his punching bag, that's why! You scared the hell out of me; and your punching bag!"

Lex blinked and watched her confused.

"It was the day Daddy dearest told you he is the new owner of LexCorp," Chris said and her voice became mellow.

Lex groaned. Of course, he remembered that day and that Chris had stopped by, but he didn't remember her being scared. She had even offered to be his attorney, in case he wanted to go to court against his dad!

"Yeah, well... bad timing, hm?! I just hope, your punching bag isn't... uhm, never mind!" Chris flashed him a crooked smile.

"And after that, you couldn't tell me because you've been in Harvard to give these lectures --"

"Hah! I've told you about that!" She pointed both her index fingers at him and beamed.

Indeed, she had told him. Certainly, because a two-week-absence was more difficult to hide than an interview. However, Chris had been excited about going back to her old alma mater, and she had told him...
Lex flashed her a smile. She had her priorities and he didn't necessarily need to understand them – as long as he was in her Top Five, and judging form her behavior he still was.

"Howard and I did the interview there, so when we came back, I thought it'd be lame to tell you since it'd already happened --"

"So, you've decided not to tell me at all!?"

"Hell, no! Why are you always so mistrustful?" Groaning, Chris ran her fingers through her hair and pulled at it. "This is so annoying! You always expect the worst! You're creating a whole new level of pessimism!" She paced up and down the floor, ranting, before suddenly, she turned around to face Lex.

"I was going to tell you and Dad on Saturday during dinner," she said. "I learned how to make a roast – by myself, in my own kitchen!"

Lex raised his brows. It was impossible to say what was more surprising: Chris not telling her father about the interview – after all, he was her best friend! – or Chris learning how to prepare an actual meal. If there weren't takeaways, Chris would have starved already. She was the only person he knew who had several food delivery services on speed dial!

He shook his head in disbelief. Chris definitely was special, and full of surprises. And, for some reason, he felt better now, knowing she hadn't told her father about the interview, either.

"I'd really hoped I could tell you earlier... I could've done with some advice; what to say, what not to say, et cetera." Chris shrugged. "You know more about giving interviews..."

"Yeah, it was a subject at prep school."

"I wanted to tell you on Saturday, you and Dad, during dinner. I thought that was a good plan..." She trailed off and whirled around, heading for the door.

"What now?"

"I'm gonna tell your... father... he's a godforsaken killjoy!"

"Sure... he'd love to see you again; wearing nothing but my shirt and checked panties," Lex said dryly as he walked over to the bed.

Chris stopped dead. "Rats! - Where are my clothes?"

She ran around in the bedroom, collecting her belongings, while Lex sat down on the bed, his back resting against the headboard; he watched her, amused.

"Gee, why can't we undress like normal people? Everything's higgledy-piggledy here! Where's my left shoe?" She stooped to check under the bed, mumbling curses and insults, most of them referring to Lionel.

Chuckling, Lex shook his head. There was something cute about her being upset – especially since he wasn't the reason for her anger.
Still grinning, he opened the magazine and flipped through it until he found the interview. Chris kept ranting.

"Why did he know about it anyway? He's not supposed to know! He's not supposed to have a copy! I was supposed to get an advanced copy, and Howard, but not Lionel! Where did he get that copy from?"

"We should ask his bowling buddy," Lex said without looking up.

The interview was indeed interesting – his dad hadn't exaggerated.
Certainly, Lex had known before that Chris always had wanted to be a lawyer, that she was a
Harvard Law graduate, and that she was still working on her dissertation for her S.J.D. grade. However, he hadn't known that her partnership with Howard Bradford had started of as a partnership of convenience. Apparently, Chris had used her mother's legacy to start the law firm, while Howard had brought in his good reputation.

Mostly, the interview was about juridical matters, and Lex skimmed through Howard's answers but focused on Chris'.

"Hey, are you reading? The interview? Now???"

He looked up and found Chris – one leg in her jeans, bouncing on the other one – staring at him in disbelief.

"Obviously," he said, suppressing a grin, and returned to his reading matter. "My dad will be gone by now, but you wanted to talk to the cook in the first place, didn't you? I'd say you're in the right mood to scare him for a change..." He squinted at her and added, "Scrambled eggs would be great."

Chris eyes widened and her mouth dropped open. He heard her huffing, and when he looked at her again, she was scowling.

It was difficult not to laugh; he found pleasure in teasing Chris.
"Or, you drop those pants and come here," he said, tapping on the mattress next to him. "Do your pouting here and imagine 1001 ways how to pay back my dad for your spoiled surprise while I finish reading."

Cocking her head, Chris eyed him for a moment before she let go off her pants and slowly walked over to him, sitting down.
"When did you start mocking me?"

"Shortly after you've shown concern for my punching bag," he replied without batting a lash.

"Yep, that's what I thought," she said, rolling her eyes. "I hate running into your father! He always makes me so... so..."

"I know the feeling." Smiling, Lex put his arm around her shoulder and kissed the top of her head., waiting for her to relax while he brought his eyes back to the magazine.

He really liked the interview. Chris had done a good job and he was almost proud of her. It was a strange feeling; he hadn't been proud of anyone before, but this was his girlfriend and she was smart and beautiful, and she had given an awesome interview to The Lawyer!

"Shouldn't we make up now?" she whispered after a while, nuzzling his neck, and tried to pull the magazine out of his hands.

"I didn't know we were in a fight," Lex smirked, holding onto the magazine. "But, go ahead anyway. I'll join as soon as I'm done here."

"Hrmpf! I like you better when you're all stiff!"

"Don't you dare lie to me!" He playfully grabbed her in the back of her neck and stole himself a kiss. When he looked at her again, he saw that her expression had changed. She bit her lips.

"You do forgive me, though... Right?!" She watched him insecure, and Lex thought she had never looked more beautiful. If he hadn't already been convinced of her honest regret, he'd definitely be by now!

"I really wanted to tell you, Lex! Being featured in The Lawyer is such a big thing, and I wanted... I wanted your full, undivided attention! You're always doing these amazingly stupid things when you think I've achieved something..." Blushing, she scratched the bridge of her nose.

Lex raised one brow. "Amazingly stupid things?"

"Yeah! You take me out for a fanzy dinner, or you make your cook... cook us a fanzy dinner, and we have good wine, and you say schmoopy things... It's all so over the top, but I like it!" She shrugged and flashed him a crooked smile.
"I know, if I had told you about the interview that other day, you would've done all of that, too, but only half-heartedly. Your mind still would've been occupied with LexCorp... – I wanted you to focus on me and only on me!" She sighed and grimaced, before suddenly, she tossed herself into the pillows.
"I sound like a spoiled brat! An idiotic spoiled brat!" Her voice was muffled and every now and then, Lex heard her wincing.

Silently, he watched her for a moment. Her possessiveness about him still surprised him, and he could only imagine how torn she must have been during the last weeks.
Of course, she didn't keep anything from him, and he knew if ther was a person he could trust it was Chris. After all, she had been raised by a Marine; she was honest and loyal.

He shouldn't have listened to his dad's words, not for a second. Casting doubts... Lionel was a master in it!

Rolling over, he spooned against Chris' back, wrapping one arm around her waist. "You forgot drama queen," he whispered, kissing the skin behind her ear.

"I thought that was obvious," she mumbled into the pillow, sniffing slightly.

Lex laughed a little and nuzzled her neck. At least, she hadn't lost her sense of humor. "You have it now!"

Chris rose her head, blinking. "I have what?"

"My full, undivided attention. You have it now, for the rest of the day... and the night," he added, smirking, and brushed a fingertip over her cheek. "And, of course, on Saturday. I really don't want to miss your homemade roast."

She sniffled once more and slowly turned around, watching him thoughtfully.
"You sure? I mean... your father's been here, and normally you are... and... I haven't even asked why he's been here," she muttered and suddenly, a tiny smile flickered across her face. "You're not gonna tell me, huh?!"

Lex suppressed a sigh. She really knew him; she always knew when he tried to hide something from her, but she never pushed him to tell her. She simply waited, certainly knowing that one day he'd tell her. And, she was right. One day, Lex would tell her why Lionel had been in the mansion today, he'd tell her about Lucas and all those other family secrets, but not today. It was too soon, the secrets too dark...

Smiling, he kissed the tip of her nose. "You gave a great interview and that's a cause for celebration! I promise, I'll do all those amazingly stupid things you apparently enjoy so much... I'm really proud of you," he added in a whisper, and Chris' cheeks turned into a deep shade of red.

She hid her face at his chest, and Lex heard a muffled giggle; when she looked up again, she was beaming and pressed herself against him. "You're simply perfect," she whispered.

He held her tight. Hopefully, she was right and he would never disappoint or hurt her. But, for the moment he decided she was right. For the moment, he was her perfect boyfriend.
