Welcome home

The past four weeks Lex had spent in Asia, doing business on his father's behalf.
Now, he was back in Metropolis. He had barely left the LuthorCorp's private jet but already a board meeting, set up for 9.30am the next day, hanging like a sword of Damocles over his head.
The mere idea of spending several hours with his father in a conference room caused him to roll his eyes and sighing deeply as he walked toward the black Maybach that was already awaiting him. Daniel, his driver, greeted him with a smile.

"Welcome home, Mr. Luthor."

Lex returned his smile half-heartedly and was going to get into the car when suddenly, he turned around. He didn't know why; it almost felt as though an invisible force made him do it, but that was ridiculous, of course.
Nonetheless, he looked around and spotted a dainty figure standing several yards away. Sunlight was blinding him and he had to squint a bit.

It was a woman, dressed in jeans and loose flowery top – a tunika, or baby doll, or whatever fashionistas called that kind of top these days. She wore her hair in a ponytail and seemed to hold something in her hands.

Lex squinted again and lifted his hand over his eyes to shield them from the bright sunlight. The woman lifted her hand, too, but it looked as though she was waving at him. She didn't move, however, since she was standing on the other side of the wire fence that enclosed the airfield.
He frowned and slowly shook his head, unbelievingly.

"Mr. Luthor, are we ready?"

"In a sec," he mumbled and walked towards the barrier. He began to smile, his heart was beating a bit faster and once more he shook his head.

"Hello, stranger. Or should I say ni hao?"

Lex stared at her for a second or two, unable to believe she was really standing in front of him.
During the past four weeks he had barely spoken to Chris; they had exchanged a myriad of emails, though, but that wasn't the same. Until now, he hadn't realized how much he had missed her and now that she was standing her, waiting for him – although he hadn't told her about his arrival – he was almost a bit overwhelmed.

"What you're doing here?"

"I still have a thing for planes," Chris replied without batting a lash, though her greenish eyes were twinkling at him rather amused. "I'm not here because of you. I mean, your secretary really knows how to keep a secret."

He heard the sarcastic undertone in her voice and raised his brows.

"No, seriously," she said. "All your secrets are safe with her. Just make sure Prada stops selling shoes."

Lex didn't believe his ears. "You bribed her?!"

"Everyone has his price... Hers is $800 Prada shoes. What's so special about those shoes? I mean, seriously! Do they bring you home when you when you click your heels? --"

She was talking her head off, speaking in Mach Three; he had missed that.
"No one forced you to buy her shoes, Angel," he said calmly but highly amused.

"Why, you did! You could've told me you're coming today instead of turning your arrival into a state secret!"

"I was going to stop by later," Lex mumbled under his breath. He had wanted to tell her, but he knew about her busy schedule and he didn't want her to postpone any meetings or appointments just because of him.

"Well, you saved a trip, then." Chris paused and smiled at him. No, she beamed. It was that smile that made her so special. No one had ever smiled at him like this, and even though he had seen it an uncountable amount of times, it still made him shiver with pleasure.
"Welcome home," she said quietly, showing him a flower she had been holding all the time. She grimaced at the fence before shrugging helplessly.

Lex couldn't help but chuckle. "You brought me a rose!?"

"It's purple." A crooked smile appeared on her face.

"I can see." Well, that definitely was a first. He had never gotten flowers; especially not from a woman. He looked at Chris and returned her smile. "Now, what you doing there?"

She blinked.

"What you doing on the other side of the barrier? C'mon here, you," he laughed.

"Uhm, fence?! It's here for a reason, I assume. Maybe, to separate the airfiled from the streets... Crazy thought, huh?!"

"Well, climb over it."

"Climb you over it!" Chris replied and Lex found himself checking out the fence. It wasn't high, at about two meters maybe, and he began to wonder why the airport wasn't protected better. They made a fuss about security inside any airport worldwide, making boarding a horror, but they left the fields with all the planes rather alone.

Only when he heard her laughing he looked up again.

"You were considering it. You were considering climbing over a fence!" Giggling, Chris shook her head and looked around before she flashed him a conspiratorial look.
"Gimme a hand! – Gee, I can't believe I'm doing this..."

Nor could Lex. It was amazing how quickly she climbed over that fence and he placed his hands on her hips to help her down.

Now, she was standing right in front of him, biting her lips and flashed him a crooked smile. Hesitantly, she moved a bit closer and carefully touched his stomach, whispering, "Hi..."

Lex shivered slightly by her bare touch. His body was already craving for more.
"That's all? I've been abroad for four weeks, and all I get is a 'hi'?"

"The law's preventing me from doing what I want to do... at least here, in a public place," she replied but Lex knew that wasn't what stopped her. It was him, he could see it in her eyes. She knew he didn't quite like to show his affection in public thus she restrained herself from throwing herself into his arms.

He couldn't help but smile. Consideration wasn't something he had experienced often before.
"Hmm, then we should leave this place immediately," he smirked. "Daniel's already waiting. I'll send someone to take your car. --"

"Not necessary. Keith gave me a ride," Chris said and blushed a bit. "I hoped you... I mean... if you're tired, or so... uhm..."

Lex stopped and looked at her before suddenly, without being able to restrain himself, he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer.
"You're adorable," he whispered and stole himself a kiss.

Chris glanced at him, half puzzled, half happy.
"I missed you," she finally replied and nuzzled his nose. "Next time you have to take me with you!"

"But, I won't get a rose then; a purple one." Smirking, he put his arm around her shoulder and walked her to his limousine.

"Meanie!" Laughing, she pressed herself against his side and kissed his chin. "Maybe, I should disinvite you from your own welcome home party!"

Immediately, Lex let her go and stared at her, slightly shocked. He knew, she only had good intentions, but a party was the last thing he could handle right now. He had spent too much time in the jet lately, and there was still that board meeting tomorrow morning.

Chris giggled. "Of course, there's a Welcome Home party. An exclusive one. Just you and me..."

Lex laughed and pulled her into his arms again. That was a welcome he could get used to.
